I’ve got to be honest. I’ve hit a hiatus. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing.. Look at all creatives, whether it be authors, illustrators, photographers- whatever, every single one of them hits a hiatus every now and then. It can be hard to stay motivated and to constantly have great ideas- and once that flow leaves for a little while it gets extra hard. So, solution? Doing something you love to remind you why you even liked that creative medium in the first place!
So, because I have been struggling to focus on my blog, and post often and do all the things on my endless list of “blog-things” I am going to motivate myself. Today will be the first day of a one week long feature on each of the chakras- so naturally we will start with the first chakra. The Root Chakra.
The energy that gathers in the root chakra is tribal power- meaning the root chakra is our connection to family beliefs, and feeling a sense of belonging to a certain group of people. This chakra is located at the base of the spine and is our foundation of emotional and mental health. Many mental health issues stem from our familial issues- such as multiple personalities, OCD, depression and self-destructive patterns. This chakra manifests our need for logic, order and structure.
Each chakra has a sacred truth, the first chakras is “All is One.” We begin to discover that all is one from our families. When we come into this world, being a part of a tribe is a necessity in order to have all of our needs met. As we go about life we continue to build on those relationships- creating a bigger & bigger tribe to connect with. We inherit our tribes beliefs, superstitions, fears and strengths and weaknesses. A tribe teaches us what it feels like to be connected, and to be a part of something. However, they also might show us how it feels to be excluded.
This chakra’s energies connect with the immune system- as well as our legs, bones, feet and rectum. I love that the first chakra connects with the immune system. Just like a member of a tribe protects its family- the first chakra protects the body. Immune disorders, chronic pain and other skeletal problems are caused by the energies in the first chakra.
The beliefs we inherit from our tribe can be very important. Many are good and have eternal value- however many also separate us from others, going against the sacred truth that all is one. Also, group beliefs can be very strong- Carl Jung said the group mind is the lowest form of consciousness simply because it justifies any group activity. This takes me to the Nuremburg Trials where almost every person claimed they were “just following orders.” Filling our tribal responsibilities can blind us as to what is really going on.
Loyalty, Honor and Justice are what binds us to our tribes. These can all be wonderful things, and extremely important to our health, however they can cause a lot of damage- even cancer, if too narrow a view is used. By challenging these basic tribal attributes, you bring negative energies into the first chakra. The feeling of betrayal can be one of the most damaging.
“The ultimate first chakra lesson is that the only real justice is divinely ordered.”
“Human reasoning and justice always fail us at some point and we do not have the power to reorder events in our lives and remake things according to how we would want them.”
We have to make it our attempt to not be victimized, or to become bitter. We need to truly believe our life is governed with a ‘divine justice.’
In Summary: The first chakra is basically a hub of energy for our “group” life. We must learn to believe in the connection of ALL things in order to have a healthy first chakra energy. Let go of things in the past such as let down, rejection or betrayal. Know that we are a part of a larger community and find comfort in that. If you have immune related disorders or issues with your bones, or legs you might wanna take a look at some of the issues that come from our first chakra!
